Wood Flooring Trends for 2025

Wood floors are a fairly timeless addition to any interior – after all, they’ve been around for centuries – but even though they’re never really out of style, wood floor trends do change in line with wider interior design fashions.

As we head into a brand-new year, we’re taking a look at what the experts are predicting will be most in demand in wood flooring for 2025. Read on to find out more…

What are the overall interior trend predictions for 2025?

Two concepts are currently dominating the discourse around 2025 interior design trends – quiet luxury, and individuality.

Quiet luxury is a term coined for the catwalk and used to describe a look that is very refined and understated, but unmistakably high-end. For interiors, it’s the idea that money talks, but wealth whispers – it exists in the quality of materials and craftsmanship, the painstaking attention to detail that makes a space look and feel luxurious without the need for brash designer branding or an overly ‘styled’ look.

The trend towards individuality is a direct response to shifts in the way we consume media post-pandemic – platforms like TikTok and Pinterest have been driving a massive surge in trend-driven content and social shopping, leading to specific products and looks going viral. Over the past five years, this has led to interiors becoming very homogenised, with the proliferation of very bland, caffe latte colors, plain fabrics and minimalist style. In 2025, we’ll see a pronounced move away from that, with designers embracing a much more eclectic and individualized look for their interiors.

This means creating spaces with richness and depth that reflect the tastes and passions of the people that live there, and also the history of the property or location. Think local craftsmanship, furnishings handed down through generations or picked up at auction houses, and décor that reflects local traditions and culture as well as objects curated from a lifetime of travel adventures.

How do these trends translate to wood floors?

It goes without saying that the wood floors you specify are a major design element in any space, and can therefore go a long way towards supporting and enhancing a specific design aesthetic. Given that 2025’s on-trend interiors will exude a sense of luxury and individuality, here’s a look at what we think will be trending in wood floors...

Character grade and reclaimed

As interiors swing towards a much more earthy, lived-in feel, we’ll see a shift away from the use of sleek, Scandinavian-style wood floors in select grades, with designers favoring the more organic and authentic look of character-grade and reclaimed wood floors full of knots, nail holes and other imperfections.

Richer tones

Pale wood floors are a perennial choice, but as designers seek to create more warmth and intimacy in their interiors, we predict we’ll be seeing increased demand for darker and richer toned wood flooring made from species like walnut, or with specific finishes such as charred or smoked oak, and rich dark wax. These tones pair wonderfully with bold wall colors – a trend that’s also predicted to emerge for interiors in 2025.

Herringbone and parquet

Since 2025 interiors look set to celebrate traditional craftsmanship, it’s likely we’ll see a resurgence of intricately handcrafted floor styles such as herringbone and parquet, with the power to lend a sense of history and heritage to any property. These highly detailed wood flooring styles add depth and richness to interiors, and are synonymous with prestige homes – a wonderfully understated way to bring that sense of ‘quiet luxury’ into your space.

Wider & longer planks

For larger spaces and when you want your wood floors to be more ‘supporting act’ and less ‘star of the show’, longer and wider planks are the ideal choice – and we think we’ll see more demand for this style of wood flooring as we move into 2025. Dovetailing perfectly with the quiet luxury trend, longer and wider planks create a more streamlined and spacious look, helping to make interiors feel grander and more expansive while putting the focus firmly on other design elements in the room.

What other interior design trends are key for 2025?

One of the trends we’re most excited about here at WoodCo is wall paneling. It’s a trend that’s been building for a number of years now with a resurgence in shiplap and Edwardian-style panelling – but as we move into 2025, we’re seeing signs that much bolder and more creative styles first seen in the Art Deco period are about to come back into vogue.

While painted wall panelling will continue to be a mainstay of quiet luxury, exposed wood panels with rich texture will be a valuable resource for designers looking to achieve that hand-crafted, authentic look for their interiors. We’re particularly excited to explore how our 3D wallboards can fit into this trend, offering homeowners and designers the opportunity to create intricate, hand-carved effects with a product that is quick and convenient to install.
